Rebecca Kelly was born in Sydney, Australia to working class parents of Irish & Indigenous descent. Born with a heart condition, she had to have life-saving surgery at birth. Her heart condition meant she was never allowed to play active sports like other children & so her love of performing began.

As a young child she was always performing & putting on plays for friends & family. Acting was her passion. At the age of 9, Rebecca begged her mother to allow her to pursue her dream & her mother found her an agent. Throughout her childhood & teens, Rebecca did various modelling jobs, appeared in TV commercials & worked as an extra on some of Australia’s most popular dramas.

After graduating from High School, life took an unexpected turn. Rather than pursuing her acting at a tertiary level, Rebecca was accepted into University to study Commerce. Coming from a humble background & being the first in her family to be offered a University place, Rebecca decided to take advantage of the opportunity & follow the path that was presented to her. She thought that commerce would be a great foundation to build the stable life that her parents had hoped for. Graduating with a distinction average, Rebecca started out in the world landing a job as a graduate accountant with a top Sydney firm. Her first day was a disconcerting one, with her manager asking: “What on earth are you working as an accountant for?!” He proceeded to hand her various acting course application forms, this from a person she had just met. Rebecca had almost given up on her acting dream, until that moment.

Rebecca continued to toy with the idea of acting again & spent the next few years jumping from accounting job to accounting job, never satisfied with her work. She knew what was missing. Her passion for acting was unremitting, so Rebecca decided to start acting classes at the local theatre.

In 2005 life served up another twist for Rebecca, though a happy one. She became a wife & first time mother. She gave birth to a son, Thomas in April of 2005, who was followed by Nicholas in 2007. Being a new mum & wife took some adjusting & meant that once again acting took a back seat. Although life was hectic, Rebecca still managed to squeeze in some extras work for TV, voice coach lessons & help her husband build a top 100 accounting firm.

On New Years Eve of 2009, reflecting on the years that had been & the year ahead, Rebecca decided that enough was enough. 2010 would be different; she would give her passion for acting the attention it deserved. The very next working day Rebecca enrolled in the Actors Centre Australia’s Power of Performance course.
